ORDINANCE NO. 2003-050 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS BE AMENDED BY REVISING SECTION 12-1 OF SAID CODE TO AUTHORIZE THE STAFFING LEVELS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the employment of firefighters in the City of Paris is governed by Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code, dealing with Civil Service employment; and, WHEREAS, Section 143.021 of said Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code provides for a municipality's governing body to establish the classifications of firefighters by ordinance; and, WHEREAS, because of budgetary restraints, the City Council, by prior Ordinance No. 2002-048, adopted September 26,2002 had found it neces~aI'Y to provide for a reduction in force in the Fire Department by eliminating one (1) firefighter position and providing for the further elimination of five (5) additional firefighter positions by ::.tttrition through vacancies as they occur; and, \VHEREAS, the City Council now desires to inr:rease the authorized staffing for the Fire Department by eliminating the loss of positions through attrition and by reinstating one (1] addItional firefighter position; NOW, THEREFORE, . BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That Section 12-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: "Sec. 12-1. Composition of department. "The fire department of the City shall be composed of the fire chief, fire marshal-assistant fire chief, and fifty-five (55) members classified as follows: "(1) One (1) fire training officer. "(2) Three (3) deputy fire chiefs.
