<br />ORDINANCE NO. 2003-013

<br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING
<br />UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN DISTRICTS 4 AND 5 FOR THE MAY 3,
<br />2003, GENERAL ELECTION ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMINING
<br />THAT NO ELECTION BE HELD IN DISTRICTS 4 AND 5; DIRECTING
<br />THAT A COpy OF THIS ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT APPROPRIATE
<br />POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING THAT CERTIF1CATES OF ELECTION
<br />BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER
<br />FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT;
<br />REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
<br />CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
<br />OF APRIL 10, 2003.

<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 10th day of
<br />February, 2003, in Resolution No. 2003-027, order the regular municipal election for the City of
<br />Paris to he held on the 3rd day of May 2003, by the qualified voters in Districts 4, 5, and 7 of
<br />the City of Paris; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham, being the authority responsible for
<br />having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that the candidates for Districts 4, and
<br />5 are unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that there
<br />are no propositions to appear on the ballot; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it
<br />is deemed appropriate that the candidates for Districts 4, and 5 be declared elected to office and
<br />that no elections be held in.those Districts; NOW, THEREFORE,
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
<br />TEXAS:

<br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all
<br />things approved.
<br />
<br />Section 2. That, for the May 3,2003, general election, the candidates for District 4, Jay
<br />Guest, and for District 5, Curtis Fendley, having been certified by the City Clerk as being
<br />unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared, be, and they are
<br />hereby, declared elected to office, which term shall begin on May 3, 2003.
<br />
<br />Section 3. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and
<br />because there are no propositions to appear on the ballot, it is hereby determined that no elections
<br />be held in Districts 4 and 5.
