<br />From every merchant whose annual ,purchases amount to
<br />$25,000, twenty-five. thousand dollars, $12.5°'
<br />From every merchant whose annual purchases amount to
<br />$15,000, fifteen thousand dollars, $IO.OO.
<br />From every merchant whose annual purchases amount to
<br />$lO,OOO, ten thousand dollars, $9.00.
<br />From every merchant whose annual purchases amount to
<br />$5,000, five thousand dollars, $3.00.
<br />From every merchant whose annual purchases amount to
<br />less than $5,000, five thousand dollars, $1,5°. .
<br />A merchant, within the meaning of this ordi.nance, is any
<br />person, firm, corporation, or association of persons, engaged 'in
<br />buying and selling lumber and shingles, goods, wares, and mer-
<br />chandise of any kind whatever.
<br />SUB. 2. From every traveling person selling patent, or other
<br />medicines, a tax of $5°.00, fifty dollars, to be paid in advance;
<br />provided that this ordinance shall not apply to commercial travel-
<br />ers, soliciting trade for merch"mts engaged in a wholesale busi-
<br />ness of selling drugs or medicines.
<br />SUB. 3, From every fortune teller, $5°.00, in advance.
<br />SUB. 4. From every clairvoyant or mesmerist, who plies his
<br />or her vocation for money, $5.00, in advance.
<br />SUB. 5. From every person, firm, or association of persons,
<br />engaged in discounting or shaving paper, or engaged in business
<br />as money brokers, or bankers, $9°.00.
<br />SUB. 6. From every operator or owner of any daguerrean,
<br />photograph, or other like gallery, $7.00, seven dollars. From
<br />every person copying, or enlarging pictures, or photographs of
<br />any kind, $5.00, in advance.
