RESOLUTION NO. 2003-158 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR THE EXPANSION OF CAMPBELL SOUP COMPANY IN PARIS, TEXAS, AND URGING IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS GOVERNOR RICK PERRY TO UTILIZE DISCRETIONARY STATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDS IN FURTHERANCE OF SAID PROPOSED PLANNED EXPANSION; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Campbell Soup Company has been a long-time corporate member of the Paris, Texas, economic community, providing jobs and salaries to employees and income to surrounding support industries; and, WHEREAS, Campbell Soup Company is considering an expansion of the Paris, Texas, plant to enhance the efficiency and productivity of said plant, provide the opportunity for production of new product lines to meet the current demands of Campbell customers, and to generally perpetuate the continuity of Campbell Soup Company in the Paris community; and, WHEREAS, providing economic development incentives to Campbell Soup Company would assist in bringing said expansion to fruition; and, WHEREAS, in the recent Texas Legislature, the Legislature empowered Texas Governor Rick Perry to grant funds to businesses that choose to expand their operations in Texas by virtue of that vehicle known as the Governor's Texas Enterprise Fund, passed into law under Senate Bill 1771, and the Legislature likewise provided funding for said program; and, WHEREAS, the aforesaid expansion of Campbell Soup would qualify for financial support from this source; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, strongly supports the use of State funds in furtherance of the expansion of critical businesses located in Texas, and it strongly urges and implores Governor Rick Perry to utilize funds from the Governor's Texas Enterprise Fund to assist Campbell Soup Company in expanding its operations in Paris, Texas.
