<br /> Department 32 <br /> Fire <br />The Fire Chief is the administrative officer of this department. Its mission is to prevent loss of life <br />and property by providing fire prevention and fire suppression services. Emergency response is <br />provided, including emergency rescue personnel and equipment and fire-fighting services, within <br />the City. The department also provides rescue service to major automobile accidents throughout <br />Lamar County through an agreement with Lamar County. The Fire Department participates in a <br />First Responder program throughout the City and helps coordinate, promote, and train First <br />Responders throughout Lamar County. A training officer conducts in service and special programs <br />to maintain the proficiency of personnel and to assist in training volunteers throughout Lamar <br />County. Fire safety inspection and investigation of the causes of fires are provided by the Fire <br />Marshall and the Code Enforcement Officer enforces ordinances concerning dilapidated property, <br />trash, and high weeds. <br /> Department 41 <br /> Engineering <br />Personnel of the Engineering Department, directed by the City Engineer, design routine public work <br />improvement projects, coordinate the work of consulting engineers under contract with the City, <br />perform design work on special public work improvement projects such as water and wastewater <br />bond projects, and inspect public works improvement projects. Other responsibilities include the <br />administration and enforcement of the City's zoning ordinance, building, electrical, and plumbing <br />codes, and the review of all land development projects as well as providing staff assistance to other <br />City departments as requested in the development of various construction type projects. The City <br />Engineer and his staff advise the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Building Commission, the <br />City Council and various other boards such as the Paris Eco~omic Development Corporation Board. <br />Activities include surveying, computer aided design and drafting, plan and specification <br />preparation, construction staking, construction inspection, and administration of construction <br />projects. The Engineering Department maintains the Master Plan, the Traffic Map, the Planning ..' <br />and Zoning Map, and the as-built drawings of the various utilities of the City. <br /> Department 42 <br /> Public Works <br />The Director of Public Works is the administrative officer of this department and directs the activities <br />of its various divisions: Parks, Recreation, Right of Ways and Main Street; Solid Waste; Streets and <br />Highways; Traffic and Public Lighting; Garage, funded through the General Fund and the activities <br />of the Water Distribution and the Sewer Maintenance Divisions funded through the Water and <br />Sewer Fund. Administrative support is provided for construction, operations, and maintenance <br />activities. <br /> j. <br />
