ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL ZONE SPEED LIMIT OF TWENTY (20) MILES <br />PER NOUR FOR TNE 300 TO 400 BLOCK OF NE 2ND STREET BETWEEN <br />PINE BLUFF AND BOOTH STREETS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER <br />CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS CLAUSE, A PENALTY <br />CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris Traffic Commission is charged with the responsibility to <br />study and evaluate reasonable rates of speed on City streets and roadways; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Traffic Commission, at its regular meeting of February 3, 2009, <br />considered and evaluated a request to establish a school zone speed limit of twenty (20) <br />miles per hour for the 300 to 400 block of NE 2nd Street between Pine Bluff and Booth <br />Streets for the private school and a day care and pre-school classes at St. Paul Baptist <br />Church; and, <br />WHEREAS, having done so found and determined that the establishment of a school <br />zone in this area is necessary to protect the health and safety and is in the best interests of <br />the citizens of the City of Paris and have so recommended the speed adjustment to the City <br />Council of the City of Paris; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in <br />all things approved. <br />Section 2. That a school zone is hereby established as follows: <br />In the 300-400 block of NE 2°d Street (between Pine Bluff and Booth Streets), a <br />school zone speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour from 45 minutes before school <br />opens until classes begin; and for a 30 minute period following the end of the school <br />day. <br />Section 3. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized to post appropriate <br />signs indicating the school zone speed limit for this roadway. <br />Section 4. That all provisions of the ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas in conflict <br />with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, and all other provisions of the <br />ordinances of the City of Paris not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall <br />remain in full force and effect. <br />Page 1 <br />!►(1s',1o,, <br />
