CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET
Submittal Date:
Originaring Department:
Presented By:
Agenda Item No.:
07/ 10/09
Council Date:
City Council
Steve Brown
27.
07/13/09
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Move to allocate an additional $25,000 from fund balance for building demolition.
POLICY ISSUE(S):
Code enforcement
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Jason Stephens with Sanitation Solutions was called four weeks ago about submitting his last invoice
and picking up new work orders. He finally came on June 26 to submit the invoice and pick up the work
orders and apologized to Code Enforcement Officer Robert Talley for not getting them sooner. Sanitation
Solutions began demolition on June 29 and usually, when they have their crews and equipment in town
(which they do right now), they can knock them out very quickly. In fact, between June 29 and July 9 they
demolished nine houses totaling 523.12 tons and at a cost of $27,202.24 ($12,554.88 - Sanitation Solutions,
$14,657.36 - landfill). Keep in mind that when the Building Standards Commission cannot meet (because
of a lack of a quonun) and when Historic Preservation delays action it has a negative impact on production.
Because of the enhanced productivity this year utilizing most of the available funds budgeted as well as at
least two large abatement and demolition issues, staff is requesting an additional allocation of $25,000 from
fund balance to complete the fiscal year.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
EXHIBITS:
Council Member Agenda Item Request; Mowing and Building Demolition Budgets chart
ACTION:
BUDGET INFO:
❑ Financial Report ❑ Minute Order
Expense
$
❑ Department Report ❑ Resolution
gudgeted Amt.
$
E Presentation ❑ Ordinance
yT'D Actual
$
❑ Public Hearing ❑ Other
Acct.
