3. Approval of »iinutes fi-om previous meetings. (May I1, 2009) <br />Motion was made by Chester Martindale, seconded by Kyle McCarley to approve the <br />minutes for the May ll, 2009 ineeting. Motion carried 5-0. <br />4. Public hear-ing and consideration of and action on tlle petition of Holidav Inn Express to <br />gr-ant a variance of Sectioil 28-23(1) of the Sign Ordinance which pr•o>>ides that "the total <br />area per.face of an attached sign shall not exceed one (1) square foot of face area per fi•ont <br />foot of leased a- occupied fascia length, " to allow 2.63 square_foot of f'ace area per.f •ont <br />foot of occupied fascia length, whic12 is a 1. 63 square_f'oot per, firont foot var-iance, on Lot 2, <br />Bloch A, Khushi & Esha Addition 318, being numbef° 3025 Loop 286 N.E. <br />Public hearing was declared open. <br />A. The following individuals spoke in favor of the petition. <br />Carlos Cuevas, 3209 Beckham Court, Plano, Texas, represented property owner, <br />Mr. Cuevas stated they had a challenge because of the size and orientation of the <br />lot. They downsized the sign package that was offered by the franchise to the <br />minimum package. The signs wil] not be flood lit it will be a controlled <br />fluorescent. Mr. Cuevas further stated he was asking the board to approve the <br />requested variance. <br />B. The following individuals spoke in opposition of the petition. <br />James Rogers, 3050 Woodhollow, Mr. Rogers stated he and other property owners <br />are against any variance that would make the hotels any more intrusive to the <br />neighborhood. At night it is very bright and intrusive, you could read a paper by <br />the light that comes from the hotel parking lats. <br />Mr. Cuevas stated they will not be adding signs to the back of the building which <br />faces the neighborhood. <br />Mr. Rogers stated they are against anything that gives the hotels more variance on <br />existing ordinance. This is intrusive and the neighborhood needs to be protected. <br />Chester Martindale asked is the problem with the existing lightning on the hotels or <br />with the sign variance. <br />Mr. Rogers stated if they had known how the hotels were going to sit on the lot they <br />would have been here to voice their concerns. He reiterated they are against any <br />additional variances. <br />Public hearing was declared closed. <br />.r 17 <br />
