MINUTES <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATlON COMMISSION <br />MONDAY JULY 27, 2009 <br />4:00 0'CLOCK P.M. <br />The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett, <br />Chairman. <br />A. The following members were present: <br />Arvin Starrett, Chainnan <br />Paul Denney, Vice-Chairman <br />Susan Scholz, Secretary (arrived late 4:03) <br />Ben Vaughan <br />Douglas Cox <br />Jerry Raper <br />B. The following members were absent: <br />Matt Coyle <br />C. Also present were Jeanna Scott, Administrative Assistant; Robert Talley, Code <br />Enforcement Officer; Kevin Kear, City Council Liaison and Kim Lacey, <br />Municipal Development Services. <br />2. Approval of niinutes fi~om previous meetings (June 10, 2009 and July 8, 2009) <br />Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Douglas Cox to approve the minutes for <br />the June 10, 2009 and July 8, 2009 meetings. Motion carried 6-0. <br />3. Consideration of and action on the f'ollowing Certificate ofAppropriateness: <br />A. 21 South Plaza - Chance Priest - Mr. Priest stated they are removing the existing <br />letter from the canopy and will be replacing the lettering on the center canopy only. <br />Arvin Starrett asked if would be possible to attach the sign to the building verses the <br />canopy. The guidelines do not allow the lettering to be attached to the awning; it <br />must be attached to the building. Mr. Priest stated he felt like it was possible, but he <br />is not sure how that would look. Ben Vaughan asked could you mount a permanent <br />sign to the building in the center of the building. Mr. Priest stated this is all fiber rock <br />covering wood. He expressed concern about his ability to place the sign there and the <br />visibility of the sign. Motion was made by Paul Denney, seconded by Susan Scholz, <br />to approve the COA subject to the sign being placed on the building not the canopy. <br />Motion carried 6-0. <br />B. 340 Bonlzam - Glenn YYai•k - presented the petition for the owner. Mr. Wark stated <br />replacing wood windows with vinyl one over one windows. They are also changing <br />the front door to incorporate a mail slot; the back of the building will need brick work <br />- - 19 <br />
