POLICY ISSUE(S): Professional services; Historic preservation BACKGROUND: The architectural services are for the repair of the Peristyle in Bywaters Park. Denney Architects proposal for services is $29,800, which is a not to exceed amount and includes the structural engineering services for the foundation. The estimated total project cost for the restoration of the Peristyle is $262,100. This includes the complete removal of the stone structure, demolition of the existing foundation, construction of a new foundation in the same location; the complete restoration and reassembly of the existing limestone Peristyle superstructure; and installation of a new electrical system, and lights. The project is estimated to take four to five months to complete. Denney Architects is proposing that we use the next two months to take detailed measurements of the structure and prepare plans and specification. This timeline would have construction starting around the first part of July. The leadership in Lamar County Class is currently raising funds for the project. They are trying to raise $66,000 toward the cost of the project. The City of Paris has an encumbered historic preservation fund of $138,000 that comes from 5% of the hotel motel tax that is designated to be used for historic preservation. An application for a Meadows Foundation grant for a major portion of the project cost will be made next week. There are also some modifications to the scope of work as well as possible phasing to bring down the estimated total cost.
