Paris Public Library Advisory Board
May 19, 2010 Minutes
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in the Library Gallery Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2010, at 4
o'clock. Chairman Bill Kennedy presided. Others attending were Debbie Anderson, Linda Vandiver, Hilda
Mallory, Deborah Hatley, and Library Director Priscilla McAnally.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed.
The library received a$10,000 donation from the estate of William Porter Estes to be used for books. Mr. Estes
passed away in December 2008. A psychologist, he was a native of Paris but had lived in California for many
years. A press release is being sent to The Paris News.
Ms. Betty Hayden has also notified the Director that she will donate to the library a painting by Irby Brown -
"Morning Break: Big Bend." She and Dr. Hayden bought the oil-on-canvas painting some years ago.
The library will have it appraised for insurance purposes (the artist estimates its value at $8000), and a press
release will be sent to the newspaper.
The budget reflects $31,000 left in the materials line item as of the end of April. With the Estes donation, the
memorial book fund stands at $47,000. The line item for food is over due to the volunteer luncheon. The
Director has asked for an additional clerk in the 2010-11 budget. This would allow for more library programs.
The downloadable music and movie sticks should be available within the next couple of weeks. The computer
class was a success at least two additional classes will be held to accommodate those who signed up for the
first one but were turned away due to class size limitations.
The Director is shopping for a laptop to be used with the Elmo projector to show movies.
Circulation was down, but visits were up in April. The children's summer program begins June 2. Linda
Vandiver will arrange a travel program for June 22 with Mary Clark and Bill and Bonnie Neeley. Bill Kennedy
will be the back-up if one of those can't do the program.
The Friends have new tote bags available for $10.
The June meeting of the Board will be moved to the 4th Wednesday, June 23.
There being no further business on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
Submitted by,
~61c
Debbie Anderson, Secretary
10
