CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET Submittal Date: Originaring Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.: 07/08/10 Council Date: Engineering, Planning & Shawn Napier, P.E. 12. 07/12/10 Development RECOMMENDED MOTION: Move to approve a resolution naming the Texas Department of Transportation as its agent for the Aviation Capital Improvement Program to apply for, receive, and disburse all funds for the administration of contracts necessary for the implementation of the grant for runway overlay and airfield improvements. POLICY ISSUE(S): Grant funds BACKGROUND: This resolution is required by TxDOT Aviation in order to move forward with the 2011 Runway 17-35 Overlay and Airfield Improvements Project. The estimated cost of the project is $1,675,000; the City's portion is $167,500 (10%). Construction is expected to begin in the summer 2011. The airfield improvements include five alternates: 1. Improve drainage on east side of hanger S 2. Improve trench drain and concrete swale 3. Install safety end treatment north of hanger D 4. Replace lighted airfield signs 5. Reconstruct hanger access taxi lanes east and west of hanger A. If current unit pricing for bids around the state continues, we will most likely have money to do all five alternates.
