CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET <br />Submittal Date: <br />Originating Department: <br />Presented By: <br />Agenda Item No.: <br />06/24/10 <br />Council Date: <br />Fire Department <br />Ronnie Grooms, Fire Chief <br />10. <br />07/12/10 <br />RECOMMENDED MOTION: <br />Move to approve an Ordinance amending Chapter 12, Fire Prevention and Protection of the Code of <br />Ordinances of the City of Paris, by amending Section 12-89 Permit Fees, establishing permit fees. <br />POLICY ISSUE(S): <br />Fire prevention; Code enforcement; Public safety <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Though the City Charter allows for Fire Prevention Fees, no official schedule has ever been adopted. <br />With the ever increasing number of plans reviews, fire system inspections, burn permits, etc., we are <br />modifying our process in order to be more efficient, effective, and to be able to offset the overall cost <br />associated with these processes. The Building Code Review Committee has reviewed and endorsed the <br />fee schedule which includes: <br />• Fire Plans Review <br />o Underground Fire Main - $50 <br />o Above Ground Fire Systems -$75 minimum/$0.50 per head; $500 maximum for plan <br />review <br />o Fire Alarm Systems -$75 minimum/$0.50 per alarm device; $500 maximum for plan <br />review <br />• Fire Construction <br />o Underground Fire Main - $50 <br />o Above Ground Fire Systems -$75 minimum/$0.50 per head; $500 maximum permit fee <br />o Fire Alarm Systems -$75 minimum/$0.50 per alarm device; $500 maximum permit fee <br />o Fixed Fire Extinguishing System -$50 <br />o Flammable & Combustible Liquids - $100/tank <br />o LP Gas -$50 construction permit <br />o Spraying or Dipping -$100 construction permit <br />o Standpipe Systems -$100 construction permit; waived if part of automatic sprinkler <br />system <br />• Operational <br />o Explosives -$100; waived for fireworks displays that are free to the public <br />o Fire Hydrants and Valves -$50; waived for City employees performing duties & fire <br />hydrant meter billed by the Water Billing Office or LCWSD <br />o Hot-Work Operations -$25 during public exhibitions & demonstrations <br />o Open Burning - Permit required but no fee assessed <br />o Private Fire Hydrants -$50; waived for trained maintenance personnel or fire brigade at a <br />private industry <br />BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: <br />Reviewed and recommended for adoprion by the Building Code Review Committee <br />City of Paris Revised 2/04/08 <br />no <br />J <br />
