RESOLUTION N0. 2011-073 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; APPOINTING ROBERT AVILA TO FILL THE VACANCY IN DISTRICT 2 AND TO SERVE AS COUNCIL PERSON FOR DISTRICT 2 UNTIL THE NEXT REGULAR ELECTION IN MAY, 2012; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on July 11, 2011, Council Member Jason Rogers resigned from his Council Seat in District 2 to pursue other opportunities out of State; and, WHEREAS, there now exists a vacancy on the membership of the City Council of the City of Paris in District No. 2, and it is appropriate that a successor be appointed; and, WHEREAS, the City Council requested persons interested in serving as Council Member for District 2 to submit an application no later than August 15, 2011; and WHEREAS, one qualified resident of District 2 in the City of Paris, Texas filed application with the City Clerk to be considered for appointment to District 2 on the Paris City Council; and, WHEREAS, after reviewing the application submitted, the City Council has determined that Robert Avila is a person possessing all of the qualifications enumerated in Section 17 of the Charter of the City of Paris, is a bona fide resident of District 2 and is most qualified to fill the vacancy in District 2 until the next election in May 2012. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. The findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That Robert Avila be, and he is hereby appointed as Council Member for District 2 and as such is a member of the City Council of the City of Paris to serve until the next regular election in May, 2012.
