RECOMMENDED MOTION: Motion to approve a Resolution authorizing a Contract with the Chamber of Commerce of Lamar County, Inc. to maintain the Visitors & Convention Council for the purpose of managing the municipal hotel occupancy tax fund. POLICY ISSUE(S): Fiscal BACKGROUND: Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code and Sec 30-37.et seq of the City Code of Ordinances authorizes the City to impose a seven percent (7.0%) tax on occupants of hotel/motel rooms rented in the City of Paris. The City distributes the hotel/motel tax funds to the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce who in turn maintains a Visitors and Convention council (Board) to manage the funds and to promote tourism and the convenrion and hotel industry in the City of Paris. The annual agreement between the City and t6he Lamar County Chamber of Commerce provides for the collection and distribution of the hotel/motel tax funds collected. The current agreement expires on September 30, 2011 therefore, City council approval is needed to extend the agreement with the Chamber for another year.
