Location <br />The City of Paris, which is the seat of Lamar County, is located in northeastern <br />Texas at the intersection of Highway 82 (East-West) and Highway 271 (North- <br />South), between the north and south forks of the Sulphur River. Longitude and <br />latitude are 33.667 north and 95.548 west, respectively. <br />D. Climate <br />The climate in the Lamar County area can be characterized by relatively mild <br />winters and hot summers. Tropical maritime air masses flow through the area in <br />late spring, summer and early fall, and polar air masses frequent the area in winter. <br />Rainfall is abundant and is distributed throughout the year. The mean annual <br />precipitation is approximately 45.32 inches. <br />E. Topography <br />The elevation in Lamar County and it neighboring Delta County range from about <br />335 feet above sea level in the southeastern part of the area to about 620 feet on the <br />highest watershed divides. In the City of Paris specifically, 80% of the terrain is <br />nearly level to strongly sloping, while the remaining 20% is nearly level to gently <br />sloping.
