IV. PHYSICAL INSPECTION DATA AND ANALYSIS
A. Defect Analysis
1. Introduction
This section describes the types of defects located during the field investigations
of the Paris wastewater collection system. Table IV-1, page IV-2 summarizes the
defect totals, I/I quantified for the defects, and the estimated rehabilitation costs
by defect category. These totals include both maintenance and I/I related defects.
2. Public Sector Defects
Public sector structural defects and I/I source defects are associated with
manholes, mainlines, and municipal service lines. A total of 4,321 manhole,
2,029 mainline, and 207 municipal service line defects were identified during the
study. The majority of mainline defects are associated with mainline point repairs,
replacement of mainlines, and minor defects requiring scheduled maintenance and
repairs. The total estimated rehabilitation cost for public sector defects is
approximately $8,000,000.
3. Private Sector Defects
Private sector defects accounted for 580 of the defects identified in the study.
Defects associated with cleanouts and breaks in the service line account for the
majority of needed repairs. It is important that the private sector defects be
addressed and then properly repaired for a successful comprehensive I/I reduction
program. The total estimated repair cost associated with private sector defects is
approximately $205,000.
ADS Environmental Services, Inc.
IV-1
