Another rehabilitation code, code 781, has been assigned to address the
large amount of end of line segments and tees found in the collection
system.. This code is used to indicate an end of line or a defective
cleanout is to be replaced with a new cleanout. This would increase the
accessibility to the collection system thereby allowing easier system
maintenance and greater reliability.
D. Special Manhole Cover Items
1. Missing Covers
Missing covers are listed in the PIPE database as Cover Type - None, and
are listed in Table V-1, page V-5. These covers should be considered
safety hazards, as well as inflow sources, and every effort should be made
to repair them expeditiously.
2. Storm Covers
Storm covers are listed in the PIPE database as Cover Type - Storm, and
are listed in Table V-2, page V-5. These covers should be replaced with
standard manhole covers, as they are probable sources of significant
inflow if located in a low lying area.
E. Defects Requiring Immediate Attention
During the study, a number of defects were found that could, if unattended, cause
serious maintenance problems such as sewer backup into homes, soil settlement,
or other catastrophic failure. Table V-3, page V-5 and V-6, presents severely
broken pipes and offset joints that are stand alone point repairs or are necessary to
accomplish lining of the main and should be repaired immediately. There are
other severely broken pipes and offset joints that are a part of a complete line
replacement project which are not listed in Table V-3, but should also be
accomplished as soon as possible.
ADS Environmental Services, Inc.
V-4
