B. Rehabilitation Code Definitions
Manhole Rehabilitation Codes
01 - Install Inflow Dish at Manhole Cover
An inflow dish is a semi-hemispherical dish with a flat rim of the same diameter
as the manhole frame. When the cover is placed over the inflow dish, its weight
effects a seal between the inflow dish and frame, preventing inflow of water
through pick holes, vent holes, or a poorly seated cover.
02 - Install Manhole Cover Gasket
Some manhole frame and cover styles include a gasket which fits on top of the
manhole frame ledge which supports the cover or on the bottom of the cover.
This rehabilitation method addresses the replacement of the gasket.
03 - Pluiz Vent Holes in Manhole Cover
T'he simplest method for sealing vent holes in manhole covers subject to sheeting
or runoff is to use rubber inserts made specifically for this application. These
inserts are not a long term solution for manholes located in traffic azeas.
04 - Replace Manhole Cover
A missing or defective manhole cover creates both an inflow source and a safety
concern. This rehabilitation method addresses only the cover. In some older
installations, a new manhole cover and frame may be needed if the cover is of an
unusual style.
OS - Replace Missing Manhole Cover Bolts
This rehabilitation method addresses missing bolts in a bolted cover.
06 - Install Manhole Frame and Cover - Standard
A broken or damaged manhole frame can become an inflow source and a safety
hazard. This rehabilitation method addresses installation of a new frame and
cover on an existing manhole.
ADS Environmental Services, Inc.
VI-9
