AGENDA INFORMATION SHEET <br />PROJECT: Approve an application for designation as a Preserve America Community. <br />BACKGROUND: Preserve America is a White House initiative in cooperation with the Advisory Council <br />on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. <br />Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, that recognizes <br />communities that (1) protect and celebrate their heritage, (2) use their historic assets for economic <br />development and community revitalization, and (3) encourage people to experience and appreciate local <br />historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. <br />DESCRIPTION: If the Paris, Texas, receives designation as a Preserve America Community, it will receive <br />the following benefits: (1) White House recognition; (2) a certificate of recognition; (3) a Preserve America <br />Community road sign; (4) authorization to use the Preserve America logo on signs, flags, banners, and <br />promotional materials; (5) listing in a Web-based Preserve America Community directory; (6) inclusion in <br />national and regional press releases; (7) official notification of designation to State tourism offices and visitor <br />bureaus; and (8) enhanced community visibility and pride. <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the application for designation as a Preserve America Community. <br />STAFF CONTACT: Lisa Wright, Director of Community Development <br />COST: There are no costs to the City associated with the designation. <br />SCHEDULE: The application is due by September 1, 2004. <br />COUNCIL DATE: Consider at City Council's regular meeting on Monday, July 14, 2004. <br />ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: See attached resolution and application. <br />
