Regular Meeting City Council <br />June 14, 2004 <br />Page 13 <br />SAID BUSINESS; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF A TAX FOR <br />SUCH PRIVILEGE AND USE OF SUCH STREETS, ALLEYS AND HIGH- <br />WAYS; PROVIDING FOR THE TERMINATION OF SUCH GRANT UPON <br />SPECIFIED CONDITIONS; PROVIDING FOR TAXICAB STANDS FOR <br />USE OF SAID GRANTEE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLIC LIABILITY <br />INSURANCE ON THE MOTOR VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT OF SAID <br />GRANTEE; PROVIDING FOR THE SUPERVISION OF SAID BUSINESS <br />AND INSPECTION OF ITS VEHICULAR EQUIPMENT BY THE <br />OFFICIALS OF THE CITY OF PARIS; AND PROVIDING AND EFFECTIVE <br />DATE, was presented on first reading by Interim City Manager Townsend. <br />A motion was made by Councilwoman Fisher. Councilwoman Wilkerson <br />asked who inspected these vehicles. City Attorney Schenk said he wasn't sure <br />if the police department had done some in the past or not. He indicated that <br />these individuals are required to file information relating to the age of the <br />vehicle, the vehicle registrations and those types of things. He said inspection <br />was done by complaint, meaning if there was a complaint made by someone, <br />then an inspection is done. Councilman Bell asked if the complaint was <br />legitimate, was there provision in the ordinance to take care of it. City Attorney <br />Schenk indicated the ordinance provided them doing anything up to and <br />including terminating the franchise. Councilwoman Wilkerson asked if there <br />was any state criteria for the condition of the cabs. City Attorney Schenk <br />affirmed that there was stated criteria for minimum safety features, as well <br />requirements for identification of the cab, but for cleanliness, it states general <br />cleanliness.
