Submittal Date:
10-18-11
Council Date:
10-24-1 ]
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET
Originating Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.:
City Manager
Gene Anderson
13.
tcECOMMENDED MOTION:
Motion to authorize the City Manager to acquire ownership or long term control of the former roadside park on
Highway 82 West for the purposes of making it a City park
POLICY ISSUE(S)
City cleanup and beautification.
The Manager would like to formally approach TX-DOT about acquiring the former roadside park
property located just past Loop 286 on Highway 82 West. Unofficial contact with the State has indicated
that the State would probably be willing to donate this property to the City as long as it is used for a
park. The property has a deed restriction to this affect by the people who originally donated the property
to the State.
Acquisition of this property would accomplish two things. First, the City could clean up a property on
which we regularly receive complaints. Second, given its location, this would be a great place to put a
gateway type sign. Such a sign in combination with a basic but neat park area would be go a long way in
improving the looks of the City.
Exhibits showing three alternative renovation options are provided. Annual maintenance costs such as
mowing and litter control are estimated at $1,200.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
None
EXHIBITS:
Alternate renovation plans numbered 1, 2, and 3.
ACTION:
❑ Financial Report
~ Minute Order
❑ Department Report
❑ Resolution
❑ Presentation
El Ordinance
❑ Public Hearing
❑ Other
FISCAL NOTES:
None
REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY:
BUDGET INFO:
r,xpense $14,085
Budgeted Amt.
$0
al
YTD C
$p
Acct. e
am
NA
A cct.
