DRAFT <br />F:ALICE\ORDWORK\CURRENT\ PD Composirion 2004-2005 <br />September 10, 2004 <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF <br />THE CITY OF PARIS BE AMENDED BY REVISING SECTION 26-1 OF <br />SAID CODE TO AUTHORIZE THE STAFFING LEVELS OF THE POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the employment of police officers in the City of Paris is governed by Chapter <br />143 of the Loca1 Government Code, dealing with Civil Service employment; and, <br />WHEREAS, Section 143.021 of said Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code provides <br />for a municipality's governing body to establish the classifications of police officers by ordinance; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, because of budgetary restraints, the City Council has found it necessary to <br />provide for a reduction in force in the Police Department by eliminating one (1) police private <br />position, such reduction in force to be implemented in accordance with Chapter 143 of the Local <br />Government Code; NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COLTNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, <br />TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br />Section 2. That Section 26-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, <br />be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: <br />"Sec. 26-1. Composition of department. <br />The police department of the City shall be composed of the chief of police and <br />sixty-one (61) members classified as follows: <br />(1) One (1) assistant chief. <br />(2) Three (3) police lieutenants. <br />
