lower position (as opposed to our other pumpers and those evaluated too) on the side-body which makes for
easier accessibility. Additionally, the truck has hose-wells on the exterior for storing short sections of suction hose,
which frees up internal compartment space. The exterior of the vehicle is rugged and is very well built; what we
need for long-term service. ,
The ergonomics of this vehicle are extremely important to us as the end user; it has large heavy-duty door handles,
anti-slip tread plates on the interior steps of the vehicle as well as areas to mount needed equipment in the interior
of the vehicle. The cab offers very good visibility for the driver as well as the officer; there is a good field-of-vision
both in front of the vehicle and laterally. Routine fluid checks are easily accommodated without having to tilt the
cab (this saves wear and tear on the cab and is another innovative design feature). As stated previously, the truck
body has sufficient compartmentation, with numerous equipment trays, tool boards, and very good lighting, to
house all the equipment and tools we currently utilize on our other pumpers. The compartments are also covered
in durable finish which will help guard against scratches and dents from equipment.
As with any apparatus, safety is of paramount concern. This truck has a reinforced cab and a preferred warning
package including audible sirens (Q26'" as on our current fleet) and LED warning lights (LED are state-of-the-art and
reduce amperage needs, thus lessening alternator wear and bulb replacement). Both audible and visual warning
devices are extremely important and vital for safe emergency response. Other options this particular unit has (that
the other demos did not) are scene-lighting, KussmaulT"' system (electrical and' air charging system that maintains
readiness).
The Crimson pumper was built by a vendor who has a proven and well respected track-record in the fire service and
who produces high-quality equipment. This particular apparatus will be the easiest, of those evaluated, to place
into immediate service as it more closely matches what we have (related to compartment space and location,
operation, acclimation, etc.) and does not require the purchase of any additional equipment. Past history should be
an indication of future expectations; if this be true, and we the committee contend that it is, then the Crimson
apparatus should service our community and department well for at least the next 20+ years. The Crimson pumper
was clearly the best of the apparatus we evaluated and we feel this pumper will service our city and citizens much
better than any of the other stock pumpers.
In conclusion, the apparatus committee wishes to convey our gratitude for having the opportunity to serve our
department and our City in this capacity. We clearly understand the magnitude of such a large monetary
investment and the importance of making the right decision. Given the parameters, we feel we have completed
the task as logically, systematically, and expediently as is possible and believe our choice for apparatus purchase
will, more than likely, outlast most of our careers.
Sincerely,
Chad Graves
Jay Daughtrey
Matt Barbee
Joey Rickman
Patrick Lynch
- 93
