<br />SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF PARIS <br />August 31, 2004 <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in Special Session, Tuesday, August <br />31, 2004, at 6:00 p.m. at the Love Civic Center, 2025 S. Collegiate Drive, <br />Paris, Texas. Mayor Fendley called the meeting to order with the following <br />Council members present: Jim Bell, Jay Guest, Mary Ann Fisher, Don Wilson <br />and Karen Wilkerson. Also present were Interim City Manager Terry <br />Townsend, City Attorney Larry W. Schenk and Asst. City Clerk Sherian Dixon. <br />Mayor Fendley called for consideration and discussion of and taking possible <br />action on the 2004-2005 City of Paris Budget. <br />Finance Director Gene Anderson reminded the Council that they had asked <br />about the sick leave wages as a percentage of the regular gross wages for the <br />Fire Department, Police Department and Public Works. He gave the Council <br />a hand out containing the following figures: <br />Dept. No. Of Emp. Percentage <br />Police 84 3.11 <br />Fire 55 4.32 <br />Pub. Works 86 3.04 <br />Fire Chief Ronnie Grooms handed out a paper showing the total number of sick <br />and injury hours for the 2003 fiscal year. Councilman Wilson said the sick and <br />injury leave hours added up to about 12,300. <br />Chief Grooms said that he didn’t always have to call someone else in when one <br />of the Firemen was sick, but he did most of the time to maintain minimum <br />staffing. Chief Grooms reminded Council that the Firemen worked 24 hour <br />shifts and other departments worked 12 or 8 hour shifts, so it was hard to <br />compare. <br />Chief Grooms said there needs to be a policy set that the employee can only <br />take sick leave when sick, so this can be controlled.
