Deliberate and act on RESOLUTION NO. 201 l-089: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, APPOINTING MELBA HARRIS AS A <br />MEMBER OF THE FIRE FIGHTERS' AND POLICE OFFICERS' CNIL SERVICE <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS <br />AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Gene Anderson said that Howard Corriston's tenn on the Civil Service Commission <br />expires December 31, 2011. Mr. Anderson stated that City Staff contacted Mr. Corriston and <br />that he did not wish to serve another term. Mr. Anderson said that Melba Harris was agreeable <br />in serving in this capacity and had previous experience. <br />Council Member Wright said he would like discussion on this item. A Motion to discuss <br />was made by Council Member Grossnickle and seconded by Council Member Frierson. Motion <br />carried, 7 ayes - 0 nays. <br />Council Member Wright wanted to know where this vacancy was advertised. Mr. <br />Anderson said that applications were on the web-site. Council Member Wright said in the future <br />he would also like for board vacancies to be in the newspaper. Mr. Anderson said that staff <br />would notify the newspaper in the future. Council Member Grossnickle spoke very highly of <br />Melba Harris. <br />A Motion to appoint Melba Harris to the Commission was made by Council Member <br />Grossnickle and seconded by Council Member Frierson. Motion carried, 7 ayes - 0 nays. <br />20. Deliberate and act on RESOLUTION NO. 2011-090: A RESOLUTION OF THE CIT'Y <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, APPROVING AN AGREEMENT <br />WITH THE TEXAS PARKS & WILDLIFE, FOR A RECREATIONAL TRAILS <br />GRANT FOR EXTENDING THE TRAIL DE PARIS WEST FROM 8TH STREET SE, <br />THE CURRENT TRAIL END, ALONG THE RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY TO 4Tx <br />STREET SW. THIS PROJECT WILL BE THE FIRST RAILS TO TRAILS PROJECT <br />IN PARIS, TEXAS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO <br />THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Shawn Napier said the City of Paris was awarded a Recreational Trail Grant from Texas <br />Parks and Wildlife and the proposed route would extend the Trail de Paris from SE 8th Street <br />West to SW 4t'' Street. Earl Erickson said this project would be the first Rails to Trails Project in <br />Paris. City Council expressed their appreciation to Mr. Erickson for all of his hard work on this <br />project. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Pickle and seconded by <br />Council Member Wright.
