I
A. Situation

IV.

SITUATION AND ASSUMPTIONS

The City of Paris is exposed to many hazards, all of which have the potential for
disrupting the community, causing casualties, and damaging or destroying public or
private property. A summary of our major hazards is provided in Figure 1. More
detailed information is provided in our Hazard Analysis, published separately.
FIGURE 1
HAZARD SUMMARY

LIKELIHOOD OF ESTIMATED IMPACT ON ESTIMATED IMPACT
OCCURRENCE* PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETV ON PROPERTV
Hazard Type: (SEE BELOW) LIMITED MODERATE MAJOR LIMITED MODERATE MAJOR
NATURAL
DROUGHT Likely X X
EARTHQUAKE Unlikely X X
FLASH FLOODING Likely X X
FLOODING (RIVER OR TIDAL) Unlikely X X
HURRICANE Unlikely NA NA
SUBSIDENCE Unlikely X X
TORNADO Hiqhly Likely X X
WILDFIRE Occasional X X
WINTER STORM Likely X X

TECHNOLOGICAL .
DAM FAILURE Occasional X X
ENERGvlFUEL SHORTAGE Occasional X X
HAZMAT/OIL SPILL (FIXED SITE) Hiqhly Likely X X
HAZMAT/OIL SPILL (TRANSPORT) Highly Likely X X
MAJOR STRUCTURAL FIRE Likely X X
NUCLEAR FACILITY INCIDENT Unlikely NA NA
WATER SVSTEM FAILURE Likely X X
GAS LINE EXPLOSION Likely X X

SECURITV
CIVIL DISORDER Occasional X X
ENEMV MILITARV ATTACK Unlikely X X
TERRORISM Likely X X
* LIKELIHOOD OF OCCURRENCE: UNLIKEL v, OCCASIONAL, lIKEL V, OR HIGHL V LIKEL V

B. Assumptions

1. The City of Paris will continue to be exposed to and subject to the impact of
those hazards described above and as well as lesser hazards and others that
may develop in the future.

2. It is possible for a major disaster to occur at any time, and at any place. In many
cases, dissemination of warning to the public and implementation of increased
readiness measures may be possible. However, some emergency situations
occur with little or no warning.

11

Ver 1 .10
08/03
