DRAFT F:ATTORNEY\RESWORK\CURRENT\ Red River Army Depot Support Res June 6, 2005 RESOLUTION NO. __________ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, IN SUPPORT OF THE CONTINUED OPERATIONS OF RED RIVER ARMY DEPOT (RED RIVER) AND LONE STAR ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT (LONE STAR) AND THE REMOVAL OF BOTH INSTALLATIONS FROM THE BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE (BRAC) LIST; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Red River and Lone Star are located in Northeast Texas and have a direct impact on the economy in the City of Paris located in Lamar County; and, WHEREAS, Red River and Lone Star employ residents from several cities and counties adjacent to Paris and Lamar County; and, WHEREAS, Red River and Lone Star have an estimated annual impact of $400 million on the entire Northeast Texas region; and, WHEREAS, both Red River and Lone Star have been targeted for closure on the BRAC list released May 13, 2005; and, WHEREAS, the closure of Red River would result in a loss of 4,176 jobs (2,500 direct and 1,676 indirect) and the closure of Lone Star would result in a loss of 229 jobs (149 direct and 80 indirect); and, WHEREAS, both Red River and Lone Star are vital not only to Defense operations, but also to the welfare of thousands of citizens in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma; and, WHEREAS, closure of these two installations would have a severe negative impact on Paris and Lamar County, as well as the entire Northeast Texas region, in every area to include the NOW, THEREFORE, economy, schools, housing, and the very livelihoods of its citizens; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Paris wholeheartedly and enthusiastically support the removal of both Red River and Lone Star from the BRAC list.
