ORDINANCE NO. 98-016
<br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING
<br />UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN DISTRICT 1 AND DISTRICT 2 FOR THE MAY 2, 1998,
<br />GENERAL ELECTION ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMI1vING THAT NO ELECTION
<br />BE HELD IN DISTRICT 1 OR DISTRICT 2; DIRECTING THAT A COPY OF THIS
<br />ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING THAT
<br />CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; AND
<br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 13, 1998.
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 9th day of
<br />February, 1998, in Resolution No. 98-020, order the regular municipal election for the City of
<br />Paris to he held on the 2nd day of May, 1998, by the qualified voters in Districts 1, 2, 3, and 6
<br />of the City of Paris; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham, being the authority responsible for
<br />having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that the candidates for District 1 and
<br />District 2 are unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that
<br />there are no propositions to appear on the ballot; and,
<br />WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it
<br />is deemed appropriate that the candidates for District 1 and District 2 be declared elected to office
<br />and that no election be held in those Districts; NOW, THEREFORE,
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
<br />TEXAS:
<br />Section 1. That, for the May 2, 1998, general election, the candidate for District 1, Mary
<br />Ann Fisher, and the candidate for District 2, Kevin Gray, having been certified by the City Clerk
<br />as being unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared, be, and they
<br />are hereby, declared elected to office, which terms shall begin on May 7, 1998.
<br />Section 2. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and because
<br />there are no propositions to appear on the ballot, it is hereby determined that no election be held
<br />in District 1 or District 2.
<br />Section 3. That the City Clerk be, and she is hereby, directed to post a copy of this
<br />Ordinance on election day at each polling place that would have been used in the election.
<br />Section 4. That a certificate of election shall be issued to each candidate in the same
<br />manner as provided for a candidate elected at the election.
<br />Section 5. That this ordinance shall become effective on April 13, 1998.
