<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 96-051 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT <br /> THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, BE AMENDED BY REVISING <br /> SECTION 30-37 OF SAID CODE; EXEMPTING FEDERAL EMPLOYEES TRAVELING <br /> ON OFFICIAL BUSINESS FROM THE LOCAL HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX; <br /> PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $500.00; REPEALING ALL <br /> ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF OCTOBER 1, 1996. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That Section 30-37 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, <br /> Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: <br /> <br /> "Sec. 30-37. Tax levied. <br /> <br /> "(a) There is hereby imposed and levied a tax upon the occupant of any room <br /> or space furnished by any hotel where the cost of occupancy is at the rate of two <br /> dollars ($2.00) or more per day, such tax to be equal to seven percent (7 of <br /> the consideration paid by any such occupant of any such room or space in any <br /> such hotel, exclusive of other occupancy taxes imposed by other units of <br /> government. <br /> <br /> "(b) Federal emp':oyees traveling on official business shall be exempt from the <br /> tax imposed in paragraph (a) above. <br /> <br /> "(c) The tax revenue derived from the levy herein may only be used for the <br /> purposes enumerated in Section 30-38 and shall not be used for general revenue <br /> purposes or general governmental operations of the City. <br /> <br /> "(d) No more than one percent (1 of the consideration paid by an occupant <br /> of a hotel or motel room may be spent on the arts as authorized by Section 30-38 <br /> (4). " <br /> <br /> Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty <br /> of a Misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $500.00, and <br /> each and every day's continuance of any violation of the above enumerated section shall <br /> constitute and be deemed a separate offense. <br /> <br /> Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby <br /> expressly repealed. <br /> <br /> Section 4.
