<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 97-038 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT <br /> THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, BE AMENDED BY REVISING <br /> SECTION 21-10 OF SAID CODE; PERMITTING THE CITY OF PARI5 TO RECEIVE <br /> MONEY INTO A TRUST FROM INDIVIDUALS FOR THE PURPOSE OF OFFERING <br /> THE SAME AS A REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND <br /> CONVICTION OF PERSONS COMMITTING CRIMES; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY <br /> NOT TO EXCEED $500.00; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br /> ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br /> DATE OF SEPTEMBER 1, 1997. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That Section 21-10 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, <br /> Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: <br /> <br /> "Sec. 21-10. Reward for arrest and conviction for crimes committed within <br /> the City of Paris. <br /> <br /> "(a) The City hereby offers a reward of up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) <br /> to any person supplying information or evidence which results in the arrest and <br /> conviction of any person found guilty of committing the offense of theft or <br /> vandalism of City property. This reward is a standing offer and shall be paid out <br /> of the general fund of the City. The amount of the reward to be paid in each case <br /> is to be determined by a committee composed of the director of finance, chief of <br /> police, and city attorney. Members of the city's police department, members of <br /> the City's fire department with assigned responsibilities for arson investigation, <br /> department heads, and division heads are not eligible to receive the reward herein <br /> <br /> established. <br /> <br /> "(b) The City may receive any amount of money from individuals and place the <br /> same into a trust and offer the full amount thereof as a reward to any person <br /> supplying information or evidence which results in the arrest and conviction of any <br /> person found guilty of committing an offense within the City of Paris. Members <br /> of the city's police department, members of the City's fire department with <br /> assigned responsibilities for arson investigation, department heads, and division <br /> heads are not eligible to receive the reward herein established. Any amounts held <br /> in trust by the City for such purposes described herein and not awarded shall be <br /> returned to the individual placing such money for reward into trust upon (1) the <br /> expiration of the time for which the reward was offered, (2) a conviction in the <br /> case for which the reward was offered without a qualifying person being eligible <br /> to collect such reward, or (3) the inability to prosecute in the case for which the <br /> reward was offered due to the expiration of the statute of limitations." <br /> <br /> Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of <br /> a Misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $500.00, and each <br /> and every day's continuance of any violation of the above-enumerated section shall constitute and <br /> be deemed a separate offense. <br /> <br /> 5ection 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly <br /> repealed. <br /> <br /> Section 4. This ordinance shall become effective on September 1, 1997. <br />
