Williams, City M <br />Ronnie Grooms, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Deputy Chief Salary Adjustment Recommendation <br />October 20, 2005 <br /> <br />As we have previously discussed and concluded, the Deputy Chief sal~ should be adjusted so as <br />to be more commensurate to the duties and responsibilitIes of that positIon and to compensate for <br />the change from FLSA non-exempt (eligible for overtime) to FLSA exempt (not eligible for <br />overtime) status. This adjustment will also create a more balanced salary differential between the <br />Deputy Chief rank and the Engineer rank. I recommend a salary increase based on the following <br />criteria: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />The DC's median average annual gross salary for the past (3) years equaled approximately <br />$ 49,698.00. <br /> <br />The DC's highest average annual gross salary for the past (3) years equaled approximately <br />$ 52,475.00 (the DC's were eligible for overtime at the time due to their FLSA non- <br />exempt status). <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />The Engineer's median average annual gross salary for the past (3) years equaled <br />approximately $ 43,344.00. <br /> <br />The Engineer's highest average annual gross salary for the past (3) years equaled <br />approximately $ 51,995.00. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />The highest individual annual salary for an Engineer was in 2002 and equaled <br />approximately $ 52,637.68. This salary exceeded the individual gross annual salaries of <br />each of the three DC's during the same (3) year time period. <br /> <br />The Engineer position is also a FLSA non-exempt position and qualifies for overtime. <br /> <br />6. <br />7. <br /> <br />I have reviewed the Y-T-D salary figure of (2) of my DC's and, projecting for 26 pay- <br />periods (and with all things remaining the same), neither will earn more than <br />approximately $48,752.00 this calendar year. The DC's agree with this figure. <br /> <br />Therefore, my recommendation is to increase the DC base rate by 12.5%. Such an increase <br />would effect the following changes to the current Deputy Chief s base salary rate: <br /> <br />CURRENT BASE SALARY <br /> <br />PROPOSED BASE SALARY <br /> <br />1. Hourly rate $ 15.255 Hourly rate $ 17.162 <br />2. Bi-weekly rate $ 1,708.538 Bi-weekly rate $ 1,922.144 <br />3.
