C. 1347) which applies to a specific <br /> category of industrial users. <br /> 28) National Pollution Discharge Elimination System <br /> (NPDES) Permit-A permit issued pursuant to <br /> Section 402 of the Act (33 U.S.C. 1342), <br /> <br /> 29) National Prohibitive Discharge Standard - <br /> Sometimes referenced as "Prohibitive Discharge <br /> Standard", denoting any regulation developed <br /> under the authority of Section 307 (b) of the Act <br /> and 40 CFR, Section 403.5. <br /> 30) Natural Outlet - Any outlet into a water-course, <br /> ditch, lake, or other body of surface water or <br /> groundwater. <br /> 31) New Source - Any source, construction of which <br /> begins after the publication of proposed regu- <br /> lations prescribing a Section 307 (c) (33 U.S.C. <br /> 1317) Pretreatment Standard which will be appli- <br /> cable to such source, if such standard is there- <br /> after promulgated within one hundred twenty <br /> (120) days of proposal in the Federal Register. <br /> If the standard is promulgated later than one <br /> hundred twenty (120) days after proposal, a new <br /> source will be one whose construction is begun <br /> after the date of promulgation of the standard. <br /> 32) Normal Domestic Wastewater - Wastewater other <br /> than industrial wastewater discharged by a person <br /> into the sanitary sewers and containing an <br /> average twenty-four (24) hour composite concen- <br /> tration of not more than 250 mg/1 total suspended <br /> solids and not more than 250 mg/1 BOD. <br /> 33) Overload - Any increase in flow, BOD, suspended <br /> solids, or pollutants that would upset normal <br /> operations or cause the POTW to be non-compliant <br /> with its state or federal permits. <br /> 34) Person - Any individual, partnership, <br /> co-partnership, firm, company, corporatioxi, <br /> association, joint stock company, trust, estate, <br /> governmental entity or any other legal entity, or <br /> their legal representatives, agents or assigns. <br /> The masculine gender shall include the feminine; <br /> the singular shall include the plural where <br /> indicated by the context. <br /> 35) pH - The logarithm (base 10) of the reciprocal of <br /> the concentration of hydrogen ions expressed in <br /> grams per liter of solution. <br /> 36) Pollutant - Any dredged spoil, solid waste, <br /> incinerator residue, sewage, garbage, sewage <br /> sludge, munitions, chemical wastes, biological <br /> materials, radioactive materials, heat, wrecked or <br /> discharged equipment, rock, sand, cellar dirt and <br /> agricultural, municipal and industrial waste dis- <br /> charged into the water. <br /> 37) Polluted - Referring to the alteration of the <br /> chemical, physical, biological and/or radiological <br /> integrity of water induced or made by man. <br /> 38) Pretreatment or Treatment - The reduction of the <br /> amount of pollutants, the elimination of pollutants, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 4 <br />
