ORDINA NCE NO. 2542 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR PARTICIPATION OF THE CITY IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL DEATH BENEFITS FUND OF THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, ?O PROVIDE CER- TAIN IN-SERVICE DEATH BENEFITS FOR EMPLOYEES, AND DEATH BENEFITS FOR ANNUITANTS WHOSE LAST EMPLOYMENT BEFORE RETIREMENT WAS WITH THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXA S. WHEREAS, the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, is a municipality participating on a full-salary basis in the several programs pre- sently operated by the Texas Municipal Retirement System; and, WHEREAS, the Cfty Council is of the opinion that it is to the best interests of the City that employees and annuitants whose last covered employment under the System was as an employee of the City shall participate in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund operated by said System; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDA INED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: Section 1. That the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, hereby elects to participate in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund of the Texas Municipal Retirement System beginning on the lst day of January, 1981, for the purpose of providing in-service death benefits in the amounts and on the terms provided for in Section XIX of the TMRS Act (Article 6243h, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, as amended) for each of the City's employees who are members of said System, and for the purpose of providing post-retirement death benefits as provided in said Section XIX for annuitants whose last covered employment was as an employee of this City. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to notify the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System that the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, has elected to partici- pate and have the employees oE the participating departments, that is, all departments except the City of Paris Fire Department, par- ticipate in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund. Section 3. The Director of Finance is hereby directed to remit funds to the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System as the C.ity's contribution to the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund as necessary to fund the participation herein authorized. Section 4. Participation of the above mentioned employees and annuitants in the Supplemental Death Benefits Fund shall be efEective on January l, 1981. Section 5. The provisions of this ordinance shall be included and incorporated in the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris as an add.ition or amendment thereto and shall be appropriately re- numbered as a part of Chapter 2, Article II, Division 2, to con- form to the uniform numbering system of the Code.
