ORDINANCE NOo 1844 . <br />AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE <br />CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS~ ON THE QUESTION OF THE ADOPTION OF A ONE <br />PERCENT (1~) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY; DESIGNATING <br />THE DAY OF THE ELECTION AND THE POLLING PLACES; APPOINTING ELEC- <br />TION OFFICIALS THEREFOR; FROVIDING THAT ALL DULY QUALIFIED RESIM <br />DENT ELECTORS SHALL BE QUALIFIED TO VOTE; PRESCRIBING FORM OF <br />BALLOT; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION; CONTAINING OTHER PROVI- <br />SIONS RELATING TO SAID ELECTION; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. <br />WHEREAS, Article 1066c, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes (Acts <br />of 1967, 60th Legislature, Regular Session, Chapter 36, Fage 62) <br />authorizes the governing body of any city, town or village in Texas <br />to call an election for the purpose of adopting a local sales and <br />use tax within such city, town or village; NOW THEREFORE, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS: <br />Section la That a special election shall be held in and <br />throughout the City of Paris, Texas, on the 14th day of December, <br />1967, at which election there shall be submitted to the resident <br />qualified voters of said City of Paris, Texas, for their action <br />thereupon, the following propositions: <br />"FOR adoption of a one percent (ll) local sales and use tax <br />within the city," <br />"AGAINST adoption of a one percent (157o) local sales and use <br />tax within the city," <br />Section 2. That said election shall be held in each of the <br />wards within said City of Paris, and the polling places and pre- <br />siding officers for each of said wards shall be, respectively, as <br />follow, to-wit: <br />In Ward No. One (1), the polling place to be the Central <br />Fire Station, and the presiding officexs shall beo <br />Mr, W. J. Joh.nson , Presiding Judge <br />Mrs. L. B. Killebrew , Alternate Presiding Judge <br />In Ward No, Two (2), the polling place to be the Grand Hotel <br />Lobby, and the presiding officers shall be: <br />Mrs. Huqh Collins , Presiding Judge <br />Mrs, Elizabeth Tompkins , Alternate Fresiding Judge <br />In Ward No. Three (3), the polling place to be the Lamar <br />County Courthouse Basement, and the presiding officers shall be: <br />Mrs. Gayther Rodgers , Presiding Judge <br />Mrs. Archie Crumley ~ Alternate Presiding Judge <br />In Ward No. Four (4), the polling place to be the ~~ris,High <br />School Gymnasium, and the presiding officers shall be: <br />Mrs. H. L. Hollis , Fresiding Judge <br />Mrs. A. N. Nolan , Alternate Presiding Judge <br />
