ORDINANCE NO. 1647 . <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENI`JING ORDINANCE NO. 1508a PROVIDING FOR <br />THE DELETION OF SECTION 54 THEREOF, PROVIDING FOR AN ALTER- <br />NATIVE TO OAKUM AND MOLTEN LEAD JOINTS TO CAST IRON AND <br />BETWEEN BRASS AND CAST IRON, PROVIDING FOR REGULATION OF <br />VENTS OVER COOKING APPLIANCES, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFEC- <br />TIVE DATE, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY-THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />i <br />Section 1. That Ordinance No. 1508 be amended by deleting there- <br />from Section 54 and adding thereto the following: <br />5ection 54. (a) All joints in cast iron pipes, fittings and <br />connections to cast iron, and between brass and cast iron, <br />shall be made with picked oakum and molten lead. Lead <br />joints shall be at least one (1) inch in depth, well calked <br />or joints in cast iron pipes, fittings, and connections can <br />be of a positive seal elastomeric compression-type joint <br />which are sealed by deformation of a one-piece gasket. <br />When the joint is made, a positive seal is effected by the <br />compression of the elastomer between the external face of <br />the spigot and the internal face of the hub. The com- <br />pression-type joint shall meet the same test requirement <br />minimums as that for lead and oakum. <br />-That all cooking appliances, gas, or electric, where hoods <br />and exhaust <br />fans are erected over the appliance for the removal of odors, gases, or <br />fumes, shall meet the following regulations: <br />. Vents should be constructed of incombustible, <br />non-corro ble material of sufficient thickness, cross sectional <br />area, and heat insulating quality to avoid temperatures in ex.- <br />cess of 160 degrees Fahrenheit on adjacent material when lo- <br />cated inside of partitions, walls, or extending through com- <br />bustible walls, floors, ceiling or roof. Such vents shall be <br />continuous from the inlet for appliance connection to at least <br />twelve (12) inches above the roof line of the structure. Vent <br />size shall be equal to the area of the outlet on the appliance <br />to be vented. When more than one appliance is connected to <br />the same vent, the area of the vent shall be equal to the area <br />of the largest outlet of any appliance vented plus fifty (50) <br />per cent of the total area of the outlets of additional appli- <br />ances vented. The minimum size of any vent shall not be <br />less than 2 1/4 inches. The top of vent above the roof shall <br />have an approved rain cap. <br />Section Z. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon <br />passage. <br />Section 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith <br />are hereby repealed. <br />Passed and adopted this 9th day of September, A.
