Stud~ of Lake Crook March, 2001 <br /> <br /> Figure 8 Archers for Christ lease on Caviness <br />Figure 7 Paris Gun Club lease on F.M. 79 Rd <br /> <br /> The Archers for Christ organization has had a <br /> lease in the past but renewal of that lease has been placed in limbo pending completion and action <br /> by the city on this study. The Archers for Christ actually occupy small target ranges on both sides <br /> of Caviness Road and frequently utilize other, non-leased land for hunting and special <br /> competitions or "shoots" during the year. <br /> <br />2.1.5 Hunting and Fishing. Hunting is allowed on certain areas of city owned Lake Crook <br />property by ordinances passed in the 1970's and subsequently amended. Duck and goose hunting <br />with shot guns (and not rifles) is permitted on the open waters of the lake. Only bow hunting is <br />allowed on the north shore and on the upper west shore west of Caviness Road and above the <br />Archers for Christ lease. Shot gun hunting is allowed in the large flood plain area south of the <br />lake down to F.M. 79 and up along the south shore to where the park road is closed. <br /> <br />Hunting is not permitted in the public park on the south shore nor around the water treatment <br />plant and below the dam. <br /> <br />Fishing is allowed on the lake in accordance with state fishing laws. There are currently no <br />restrictions on boat size or horsepower on Lake Crook <br /> <br />2.1.6 Other Users. The lake has been used in the past for water skiing and ski jumping training <br />or competitions. In 1975, the ski jump ramp was removed with the concurrence of the Paris <br />Water Skiing Club. <br /> <br />The lake has also been host to Touchstone Energy Longhorn National Drag Boat Racing <br />competition, the most recent being in July, 2000. There are no publicized plans for additional <br />racing on the lake at the present time. <br /> <br />Page 17 of 45 <br /> <br /> <br />
