PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JUNE 20, 2001 <br /> <br /> MINUTES <br /> <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, June 20, <br />2001, at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these <br />members present:, John Howison, Anna Davis, Nancee Salzman, Fran Neeley, Rogene <br />Patterson, and Curtis Fendley. Absent were Sarah Gambill and Walter Williams. Callie <br />Thompson, new Friends President and Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Library Director, <br />were also present. <br /> <br />The May 16, 2001, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br /> <br />The Budget Report was distributed and is target with budget expenditures. Fran Neeley <br />noted that the budget year ends September 30. <br /> <br />The Statistical Report was distributed. It showed in May there was an increase in <br />circulation of 7.14 over the same month last year. The library showed a 36.3 percent <br />increase in reference assistance, and again the largest increase in Electronic Reference <br />Assistance with 459 percent. Both increases are over the same month from last year. <br /> <br />Linda Orr, Children's Outreach Coordinator, gave a summary o£the Mobile Library <br />Summer Program to the board. This year there are 9 sites including the addition of the <br />Boys' and Girls' Club. She has an average of 20 children at the sites with Brookston <br />bcing the smallest. <br /> <br />In Children's Services there were 19 programs with 325 children and 82 adults in <br />attendance, which is down from last month. <br /> <br />The Adult Outreach service visited 14 sites, distributed 1,264 books, 317 audio books, <br />386 videos, and 66 magazines. <br /> <br />In other statistics, there were 43 interlibrary loans in May; and 20 memorial/gill <br />contributions for a total of $450. <br /> <br />In Unfinished Business it was noted that since the library does not receive Federal funds <br />it was not required under the Child lnternet Protection Act to install filtering software on <br />thc Internet computers. <br /> <br />Also Jackie Alsobrook reported on the presentation of the "Purple Heart" book from the <br />Purple Heart Veterans group. The book will be available to check out from the library. <br />Mrs. Alsobrook also mentioned talking with the City Manager and that he has been <br />interviewing candidates for the position of Library Director. <br /> <br /> <br />
