Comprehensive Plan, City of Paris, Texas Municipal Services and Natural Features Fire Service Expansion The department must be well distributed to provide a very good level of fire protection to all areas of the existing City. The department must meet anticipated needs of future growth. In order to maintain adequate distribution of fire response companies the City approved an expansion plan in 1999: • Station 2 on Lamar Avenue be closed and relocated northeast, and • a fourth station be opened in the southeast portion of the City. Two new stations are currently under construction on Pine Mill Road and Jefferson Road. The new pumpers currently on order are to replace the current Engine 2(1978 Mack would move to reserve), and addition of the fourth en~ine. Nine additional firefighters will need to be added to the department to staff the fourth engine and maintain the departments current standard of 3 man engme companies. Additional growth of the City through development or annexation may require additional improvements in the Fire Department to maintain protection of the City. Other improvements that may improve service levels would include: • add personnel to staff the Ladder truck to better utilize a valuable resource, • increase staffing levels of Engine Companies from minimum 3 man to 4 man Engine Companies, • add a second Rescue Company, and • if growth warrants in the future, add a fifth station. POLICE SERVICES The City of Paris Police Department continues its objectives of maintaining a ratio of 2.1 officers for every 1,000 citizens. This ratio would increase as financially possible to. Maintaining an emergency operations center to meet an expanding City limits and growing population- including business and residential-is the key challenge, as stated by the department. Also under consideration is a new public safety building. Other objectives of the department include maintaining the catastrophic/emergency plan for the City, upgrading radio systems to be compatible with surrounding agencies and a new animal control facility.
