TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY - COMMERCE (TAMU-C): TAMU-C is located 40 minutes southwest of Paris, The university has a <br />student population of approximately 7,800 students. TAMU-C offers more than 100 major fields of study through 32 academic <br />departments and offers 50 Master Degree programs and 13 Ph.D. programs. The University has a national reputation in the <br />~erd of journalism and graphic arts. <br /> <br />OTHER COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES: Within a two-hour drive of Paris, residents have access to over a dozen other <br />institutions of higher learning in the Dallas/Ft. Wo~h, Sherman, Denton, Tyler and Texarkana areas. <br /> <br />LAMAR COUNTY <br /> <br />Lamar County was created in 1840 from Red River County. The northeast Texas county has an economy based on <br />manufacturing and agribusiness. The Texas Almanac designates beef, dairy cattle, hay, wheat, cotton, soybeans and peanuts <br />as the principal sources of agricultural income.
