RESOLUTION NO, 1085. <br />WHEREAS, the construction of the Pat Mayse Dam and Reservoir on <br />Sanders Creek, in Lamar County, Texas, has been recommended as a <br />feasible project by the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, the <br />District and Division Offices thereof, the Texas Water Commission, and the <br />Governor of the State of Texas, and authorized during the Session of the <br />87th Congress in the 1962 Flood Control Act; and, <br />WHEREAS, the President of the United States has placed in the Budget <br />for the fiscal year 1965, the sum of $300, 000, 00 for final engineering; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District Office, have stated <br />that their total capabilities for the fiscal year 1965 would be an additional <br />$700, 000. 00 to begin construction work; and, <br />W HER EAS, the ma jor plant of C ampbell Soup Go mpany, which i s now <br />being constructed, will be completed and using water by November lst of <br />1964, and their r equirernents will be in exc es s, within two year s, of the <br />ability of the City of Paris, with its present water supply, to furnis4 and, <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris and Lamar County, Texas, have been <br />declared depressed areas by the Congress of the United States, because of <br />their extremely high level of chronic unemployment; and, <br />WHEREAS, the 800 or more employees that will be used by the <br />Campbell Soup Company will alleviate this depressed condition for the en- <br />tire County of Lamar; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris, by Resolution No. 951, adopted by the <br />City Council of the City of Paris, on January 25, 1961, clearly states the <br />ability and willingness of the City of Paris to pay the costs of the con- <br />struction of the Pat Mayse Dam and Reservoir allocated for municipal <br />water storage; NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />That the City of Paris does hereby earnestly petition and request the <br />Congress of the United States to appropriate the $300, 000. 00 contained in <br />the President of the United States' Budget for the fiscal year 1965, plus <br />
