~ <br />. <br />AESOLUTION N0. 698 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris entered into a <br />contract with the United States Pipe and Foundry Company, dated November- <br />30, 1956, being Project No. 803-11A-56 of the Water and Sewer Program, <br />whereby the City of Paris agreed to purchase, and the United States Pipe <br />and Foundry Company, a corporation, agreed to furnish 27,000 pounds of <br />cast iron fittings, and said fittings contracted for were of the bell <br />and spigot type fittings, and is Item 7-A in the above mentioned con- <br />tract; and, <br />WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City Council <br />of the City of Paris by the Engineers on such project that it is most <br />desirable to have the belland spigot fittings substituted with mechanical <br />joint fittings for the following reasonss <br />(1) The total cost will be less to the City of Paris because <br />of the lighter weight in the large sizes and quantities <br />being purchased. <br />(2) That the City of Paris anticipates that a lower bid <br />will be received for the installation of such fittings <br />because of the ease with which mechanical joint <br />fittings can be installed, thereby reducing the cost <br />of installation. <br />(a) The mechanical joint fittings will speed up the <br />installation of the lines anticipated. <br />(3) The United States Pipe and Foundry Company by its <br />letter of April 3, 1957 has furnished its consent to <br />the cancellation of Item No. 7-A, in the amount of <br />27,000 pounds of bell and spigot fittings. <br />(4) That the United States Pipe and Foundry Company has <br />agreed to the above installation and to bid on a <br />competitive basis for the mechanical joint fittings; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESO LVED BY THE CITY OpUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That <br />Item No. 7-A in the contract between the City of Paris and United States <br />Pipe and Foundry Company, which contract is dated November 30, 1956, be, <br />and the same is hereby cancelled. That the City Manager of the City of <br />Paris is hereby instructed to furnish United States Pipe and Foundry <br />Company a copy of this resolution. <br />Passed and adopted this/bth day of April, A.
