City Council Meeting
August 16, 2000
Page 5
which is for consultants is $15,000.00. Mr. Anderson said the difference of
$5,000.00 is primarily for consultants that came in to do the new drug policy,
and one of the things that is required in the drug policy is training for
supervisors on how to recognize and deal with any type alcohol or drug related
problems that they get into as well as how to recognize it and deal with it. Mr.
Anderson said this firm also offers employee assistance, so he budgeted
$10,000.00 in order to have the training. Mr. Anderson said in looking at the
other line items, you will see minimum increases or decreases. Mr. Anderson
stated that under the capital outlay he is requesting three personal computer
replacements as the personal computers they have now were purchased in early
1985 and are in need of being replaced. Mr. Anderson said he was also
requesting a new printer which is about the same age as the computers, and he
would like to replace it with a color printer in order to do color graphs and
charts. Mr. Anderson said the paper shredder that he is asking for will be use
to dispose of personnel records after they have been microfilmed. Mr.
Anderson said a security system has been a goal of his for a long time, and
would like to add security cameras and other recommended security items for
his office as they handle a lot of money. Mr. Anderson discussed the security
system with the City Council.
Tommy Hunt, Municipal Judge, came forward presenting his proposed budget
stating that the budget items are basically the same as they were last year with
very little difference in those. Judge Hunt said his department is small. He has
a chief clerk and three deputy clerks. Judge Hunt said there is a memorandum
attached to his budget regarding a request for certification pay for his court
clerks. He said he has encouraged the clerks to be certified, and he has
proposed in the budget a$25.00 bi-weekly certification pay for Level I, and
$50.00 certification pay for Level II with a years of service addition with that.
He stressed the need for the clerks to be professional, to know the law well
enough that they can not only follow it, but they can explain it to the customers.
Judge Hunt stated that he anticipates, with City Attorney Schenk's new
ordinances, that their work load level will be increasing.
