Special City Council Meeting <br />February 19, 2001 <br />Page 6 <br />No one else appeared, and the public hearing was declared closed. <br />Mayor Pfiester expressed his support of the sports complex and said he felt the <br />City of Paris should move forward by using money from the certificates of <br />obligation that was set aside for improvements last year, for a fifty percent <br />match if the city receives a grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. <br />City Manager Malone said a sports facility has been the number one priority of <br />the City's Parks & Recreation Master Plan for the past few years. City Manager <br />Malone advised that Paris Junior College will allow the city to build a sports <br />complex on an 80-acre tract adjacent to Love Civic Center. The City Manager <br />said the land value could be used for part of the city's 50% match for a state <br />grant. <br />Afterfurther discussion, Mayor Pfiester called for consideration of and action on <br />a resolution requesting donation of land from Paris Junior College for site of a <br />new sports complex; authorizing the preparation of an application to the Texas <br />Parks & Wildlife Department for a grant to fund Phase I, and soliciting voluntary <br />contributions in support of the grant. <br />Resolution No. 2001-017, resolving that the City Council of the City of Paris, <br />Paris, Texas, hereby formally invite Paris Junior College to consider the <br />donation of property or the use of property to be used as a potential site for a <br />new sports complex; the donation of said property or the use of said property <br />to be conditioned upon the city receiving sufficient grant funds from the Texas <br />Parks and Wildlife Department or sufficient funds from other sources to enable <br />the city to adequately fund the creation of a new sports complex; that the <br />voluntary contributions and certificates of obligation in an amount not to exceed <br />$500,000.00, are hereby authorized as the city's match for any potential grant for <br />which the city may be qualified from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department <br />or from any other potential source of funding as may be available, was <br />presented. A motion was made by Councilman Carter, seconded by Councilman <br />McCarthy, for approval of the resolution. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />There being no further business, a motion was made by Councilman McCarthy, <br />seconded by Councilman Carter, to adjourn the meeting.
