AGENDA INFORMATION SHEET
PROJECT: Consider a resolution renaming Record Park to Leon Williams Park.
BACKGROUND: At the December 10, 2001, regular Council meeting, the City Council received
a formal request to rename Record Park to Leon Williams Park in honor of the contributions and
accomplishments of citizen Leon Williams.
As a consequence of the Council referring that matter for preparation, the City Attorney's office and
the City Clerk researched the background on the park The original park was apparently acquired
by deed recorded on Apri15, 1934, but reflecting an earlier purchase date of 1933. The park was
originally named Binnion Park after a prior Mayor Binnion, and then subsequently renamed Record
Park after a prior Mayor Record.
DESCRIPTION: The enclosed resolution would formalize the renaming of Record Park to Leon
Williams Park.
COST: There may be some cost incidental to renaming the Park, such as changing nameplates, etc.
In addition, the official map of the City of Paris will have to be revised to reflect the new name for
the park.
LOCATION: The park is bounded on the south by W. Henderson Street, on the east by 7th Street
N.W., and on the north by Park Street.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Consider approval of the resolution.
STAFF CONTACT: Michael E. Malone, City Manager, and Terry Townsend, Director of Parks &
Recreation
COUNCII, DATE: Consider for approval at City Council's regular meeting of January 14, 2002.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: See enclosed resolution authorizing changing the name ofthe park
from Record Park to Leon Williams Park.
