Item No. 11
memoandum
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SUBJECT: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
DATE: January 4, 2013
BACKGROLTND: Because our police and fire departments operate under a civil service system,
we are required to have a local three-member civil service commission. Members' terms vary in
length, so do not expire at one time. Sims Norment recently completed a second three-year term
on the commission and indicated he does not wish to be re-appointed again.
STATUS OF ISSUE: At this point, we have received one application to serve. Mr. Russell
Figgins is employed by Liberty Bank, and meets Paris residency requirements to serve on the
commission. The council needs to appoint Mr. Figgins, preferably before the next commission
meeting, or seek other applicant(s).
BUDGET: NA.
RECOMMENDATION: Appoint new commission member.
