ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AMEIVDING SEC. 12-1, COMPOSITION OF DEPARTMENT, OF CHAPTER 12, <br />FIRE, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS BY <br />RENAMING CERTAIN SUPERVISORY POSITIONS WITHIN THE FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT AND ADDING THREE ADDITIONAL DRIVER ENGINEER <br />POSITIOIVS; AND OTHER MATTERS RELATED TO THE SAME; PROVIDING <br />A REPEALER CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND <br />DECLARING A1V EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the employment of Firefighters in the City of Paris is governed by <br />Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code, dealing with Civil Service employment; and, <br />WHEREAS, Section 143.021 of said Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code <br />states that that the Civil Service Commission shall provide for the classification of all fire <br />fighters and police officers and the municipal governing body shall establish the <br />classifications of Firefighters by ordinance; <br />WHEREAS, the Fire Chief has requested a renaming of some of the supervisory <br />positions in the Paris Fire Department to bring the Fire Department more in line with <br />supervisory structure used in other municipal Fire departments; and <br />WHEREAS, the intent of the City Council is merely to change the name of the <br />rank/classifications within the Fire Department, the job descriptions will follow the name <br />changes. It is not the City Council's intent to create additional ranks/classifications by <br />adoption of this Ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, the Fire Chief has also requested an increase in staffing in the Driver <br />Engineer position from six Drivers to nine Drivers to better meet the needs of the Fire <br />Department and serve the community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris Civil Service Commission has approved the new rank <br />structure as follows: Fire Chief, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal, Deputy Chief, Fire Captains, <br />Driver Engineers, and Firefighters. <br />1VOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAIIVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />Section 2. Prior to the effective date of this ordinance, the following <br />classifications and number of positions in each classification in the Fire Department <br />existed: <br />(1) One (1) Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal <br />
