Item No. 13 <br />ynemo�anduln <br />To: c�ty co���l <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Shawn Napier, P.E., Director of Engineering, Planning & Development <br />SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER #1 WITH RICHARD DRAKE CONSTRUCTION CO. <br />DATE: 2-18-2013 <br />BACKGROLTND: The City of Paris has been replacing sidewalks in downtown Paris over the <br />past few years with grant money from the state. The City of Paris proposed to replace sidewalks <br />on both sides of Bonham St. between 1 st St and 2nd St as well as a small area in front of the <br />YWCA on Lamar Ave. At the September 24, 2012 City Council meeting a grant application was <br />authorized to be submitted to the Texas Capital Fund Main Street program to replace sidewalks. <br />The City was not awarded the grant, but the Capital Improvement Program has given the City the <br />opportunity to fund this sidewalk replacement project. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: This change order to the previously approved contract with Richard Drake <br />Construction Company is for adding two areas to the sidewalk replacement project and deleting <br />other areas from the approved contract. The small area in front of the YWCA on Lamar Ave. <br />has been added to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contract and will therefore <br />be deleted from the City contract with Richard Drake Construction Company to fix a trip hazard <br />in front of the building. The ADA curb ramps at the northeast and southeast corners of Bonham <br />and 1 S` St. have already been replaced by TxDOT. These two curb ramp areas will also be <br />deleted from the contract. This will allow the city to add some additional sidewalks to the <br />project. The proposed sections of sidewalk and driveways to be added to the contract include <br />Grand Ave in front of the Salvation Army and a section on SW 7th St. between Bonham St. and <br />Grand Ave. <br />BUDGET: The original bid amount from Richard Drake Construction Company was <br />$130,705.85. The net change order amount will be an increase of approximately $30,000. The <br />exact amount, along with the change order document will be provided at the meeting. This <br />project will be funded from the Capital Improvement Program. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve change order #1 to the contract with Richard Drake <br />Construction Company. <br />•� <br />
