Item No. 25
memoandunz
TO: Mayor & Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SUBJECT: AD HOC PARKS ADVISORY BOARD
DATE: February 18, 2013
BACKGROLTND: As part of the new parks plan that will be created through the work of Mark
Spencer out of Tyler and the city's own planning manager, Alan Efrussy, we also believe there is
a need for an ad hoc committee or board of local citizens to help guide input, priorities, and ideas
for the plan. In fact, our contract with MHS includes mention of the consultant working with
such a citizens' committee. Such committees are fairly common in many other municipalities,
and in fact many are permanent advisory boards.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Once appointed, Paris's ad hoc parks committee will help formulate
recommendations back to the council and assist the consultant with local feedback. The
committee can be formally created by a resolution of the council and its members and then
appointed like with standing committees and boards. It can also be less formally created and
appointed, or the task could even be delegated to staff.
BUDGET: NA.
RECOMMENDATION: Provide direction to staff.
164
