Item No. 9 <br />memo�andum <br />TO: City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Shawn Napier, P.E., Director of Engineering, Planning & Development <br />SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER #1 WITH RICHARD DRAKE CONSTRUCTION CO. <br />DATE: 3-4-2013 <br />BACKGROITND: The City of Paris has been replacing sidewalks in downtown Paris over the <br />past few years with grant money from the State. The City of Paris proposed to replace sidewalks <br />on both sides of Bonham St. between 1 st St. and 2nd St. as well as a small area in front of the <br />YWCA on Lamar Ave. At the September 24, 2012 City Council meeting, a grant application <br />was authorized to be submitted to the Texas Capital Fund Main Street program to replace <br />sidewalks. The City was not awarded the grant, but the new Capital Improvement Program has <br />given the City the opportunity to fund this sidewalk replacement project. The City Council <br />approved a contract with Richard Drake Construction in the amount of $130,705.85 at the <br />February 25`�' City Council Meeting. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: This change order proposes to add two areas to the sidewalk replacement <br />project and delete other areas from the approved contract. The small area in front of the YWCA <br />on Lamar Ave. has been replaced by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) <br />contractor and will therefore be deleted from the City contract with Richard Drake Construction <br />Company. The ADA curb ramps at the northeast and southeast corners of Bonham and 1 S` St. <br />have also been replaced by TxDOT. These two curb ramp areas will also be deleted from the <br />existing contract. The proposed sections of sidewalk and driveways to be added to the contract <br />include Grand Ave. in front of the Salvation Army and a section on SW 7th St. between Bonham <br />St. and Grand Ave. <br />BUDGET: The original bid amount from Richard Drake Construction Company was <br />$130,705.85. The proposed change order #1 would be an increase of $21,669.20 (see attached <br />Change Order #1 for details). If approved the new contract amount will be $152,375.05. This <br />project will be funded from the Capital Improvement Program. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve change order #1 to the contract with Richard Drake <br />Construction Company. <br />32 <br />
